Pre-assessment
Meet Mario, one of ABii’s best onscreen friends! He is having trouble reading a recipe from his famous pizza cookbook and he needs your help. In this pre-assessment example, ABii is checking the student’s understanding of short and long vowels. Without this important information, Mario will not be able to make one of his delicious pizzas, so if the student answers incorrectly, a scaffolded, step-by-step is provided. Otherwise, get ready for a double fist bump or round of marshmello applause.
Scaffolding
ABii’s reading curriculum includes multi-modal learning supports for students to aid with comprehension. For example, speaker icons are included with questions and answer choices to assist early readers and multilingual students. Additionally, illustrations are provided, along with a magnifying glass for each, so that students can use visuals to help understand and solve the problem.
Recap & Assessment
At the conclusion of every lesson, ABii gives the student another chance to answer the original pre-assessment question. Next, ABii presents a recap of the problem-solving process the tutorial followed to achieve the correct answer. To reinforce the skill, four additional assessment problems are provided to test the student’s knowledge of the same skill.
